Start with your usual meals

List the meals you would genuinely make in a slow cooker and how often you would use it. Think about the amount you prepare, whether you want leftovers and how the appliance fits into your day. If an existing pan and routine already work well, you may not need another appliance. Choose the job first, then compare designs around it.

Compare usable capacity and the removable pot

A stated capacity does not mean the pot should be filled to the brim. Follow the exact model’s minimum and maximum filling guidance and compare it with recipes written for that size. Check the loaded pot’s weight, handle design and whether it fits your sink and storage space. A lightweight pot and a heavier ceramic bowl can feel quite different when lifted.

Decide whether hob searing matters

Some removable pots can be used on specified hob types; others cannot. The featured Morphy Richards 3.5L Sear & Stew model uses a hob-safe pot, but it is not suitable for induction hobs. Confirm the exact model and manual before placing any insert on a hob. Do not treat a removable pot as proof of hob compatibility. If you normally use a separate pan, decide whether this feature changes your routine enough to matter.

Choose controls you will use confidently

Compare straightforward heat settings with a programmable cooking timer. Check what happens when the timer finishes and how the appliance must be started. Do not assume a cooking timer provides a delayed start or that a keep-warm setting cooks raw food. Follow the appliance instructions and a suitable recipe, including any ingredient preparation or pre-cooking steps. This is a buying guide, not a cooking-time guide.

Make room for use, washing and storage

Measure the whole appliance with its lid and handles, then allow the clearances required in the manual. Plan a stable operating position with a suitable socket and space to lift the lid safely. Check which parts can be washed by your preferred method. Before ordering, compare the exact model, current seller, delivery and returns terms; the product examples are researched rather than personally tested.
